MAKING PEDs EU Project

MAKING PEDs EU Project

The MAKING PEDs EU project focuses on developing Digital Twins as decision support tools for cities. With 11 international partners, including research institutes, universities, municipalities, and industry organisations, the project supports four cities in navigating the complexity of climate neutral district regeneration and in engaging citizens throughout the process.

The consortium brings together: IREC, NTNU, AIT, Ciclica, Urban Future, Roma Tre University, Smart City Bærum, the City of Linz, and the Municipality of Sant Esteve de Palautordera, alongside additional technical and research partners contributing to the development of scalable Positive Energy District (PED) solutions.

In addition to assessing PED performance and the role of citizens in the energy equation, a central objective of MAKING PEDs is to enable reliable predictions and scalable models for large scale building retrofits. The project addresses a critical gap in PED development: while many initiatives focus on individual enabling factors, successful implementation requires aligning these factors from the very beginning.

Managing the complexity of large scale retrofitting remains one of the greatest challenges for cities—yet decision makers often lack tools that bring all necessary information together. MAKING PEDs aims to close this gap by providing integrated, data driven support that enables more effective, coordinated, and informed urban transformation.
