Welcome to ICMT5
Trondheim, 17-20 June, 2025
Textbooks are vital curriculum resources for teaching and learning mathematics in classrooms around the world. In many countries they have changed from static to interactive e-textbooks, and teachers use other digital curriculum resources to complement, or even replace, the static textbook. This development has been accelerated due to the Covid pandemic.
Mathematics textbooks and digital curriculum resources are known to play an integral role in defining mathematics as a school subject, shaping the learning opportunities for students by teachers, and supporting teachers’ learning and professional development. The focus of ‘textbooks studies’ varied greatly: textbook content, the analysis and design of textbooks, the interaction with and use by teachers and students, in particular in innovative learning environments, and textbook use in mathematics teacher education. In relation to the change of nature of textbooks and digital curriculum resources, theoretical frames have shifted from attending to the teacher, or student, in their interaction with those resources, to the investigation of the teaching-learning environment where the resource is only one aspect of the mathematics learning ecosystem.
It is our pleasure to continue the successful series that started in 2014 with the first ICMT held in Southampton (UK), the second in 2017 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the third in 2019 in Paderborn (Germany), and the fourth on 2022 in Beijing (China). We invite you to the Fifth International Conference on Mathematics Textbook Research and Development (ICMT 5) to be held in Trondheim (Norway) from June 17th to 20th, 2025.
Welcome to Trondheim!
