MiU: Music Education in Development

MiU: Music Education in Development

The MiU: Music Education in Development research network is dedicated to music pedagogical education and research in a broad sense. The acronym MiU is deliberately ambiguous in an attempt to open up MiU´s collaborations, relationships, and projects, and can be interpreted as Music Teacher Education in Development, Musician Education with a Pedagogical Perspective in Development, Musicological Education with a Didactic Profile in Development, or simply as Music in Education.

The MiU research network comprises researchers from various types of music education, music teacher education, and teacher education with a music profile in Central Norway, from the Department of Teacher Education (ILU) and the Department of Music (IMU) at NTNU, from Queen Maud University College of Early Childhood Education (DMMH), and from Nord University. This includes researchers at the lecturer level, first level, and top level, from both qualification tracks. Altogether, MiU encompasses several research groups and doctoral projects in progress, and many senior-level research projects. MiU actively collaborates with research groups at each of the four institutions.

MiU collaborates on the open access publication series MusPed:Research, which publishes anthologies and monographs on topics relevant to music pedagogical education and research.

The MiU conference is regularly hosted in rotation among the network partners.
