IBM - Simsalabim
SIMsalaBIM
The architecture, engineering and construction industry is constantly developing, and there is a great development of applications for digital information, modeling, and cloud-based project management solutions.
The BIM lab is a project to accommodate this development, linking NTNU to the industry through the creation of a Big Room-based laboratory with the newest digital technologies and equipment.
A Big-Room is a room equipped with technology that promotes interaction processes in the construction industry. There is a focus on visual aids in order to reduce misunderstandings and different perceptions in the interfaces between the builder, architect, designers and every individual involved in the building process.
This lab provides a modern and advance working environment for students and researchers to study and apply digital methodologies in the construction industry. Our lab provides a platform to encourage an interdisciplinary teaching within Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The BIM lab is open to all the students and employees.
Facilities
The BIM lab is equipped with 3d visual technology for a typical Big Room. Here, you will be able to see BIM models from reality and have the opportunity to test your own models. The room will also be used for simulation of interaction processes, and exploration of new software and methods within interaction.
Big touchscreens
The two movable screens are monitors with touch sensitive surface, used to present BIM models and facilitate flexible working and moving around the BIM model.
Alienware laptop
Two Alienware gaming laptop are equipped with different BIM software, ready to be connected and used for BIM projects.
Oculus Rift VR Glasses
The BIM lab is equipped with two Oculus Rift headsets and associated controllers. These are pre-calibrated on the Alienware laptops, with sensors attached to the respective displays. In addition, you will have the opportunity to enter into the models using VR technology.
