Course content

Overview:

The aim of this course is to understand what companies and corporate managers, focusing on how companies can do so. You will learn frameworks, such as for example for sustainability tensions, which are useful for a sustainability manager who has to deal with complex sustainability challenges. As a core course in the Master of Management of Innovation and Sustainable Business Development, the course helps you strengthen your expertise to evaluate complex sustainability challenges, justify sustainability insights across diverse business contexts and audiences, and create sustainable business development strategies.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, students will be able to

  1. Analyze the complexities companies face as societal actors when dealing with sustainability challenges by utilizing theoretical knowledge
  2. Design solutions for an organization to become more sustainable based on theoretical knowledge
  3. Reflect on the different roles oneself has in relation to sustainability challenges
  4. Present and communicate ideas and findings to diverse audiences in an international context

Learning methods and activities

The course consists of a combination of lectures and guest lectures, casework, group work, presentations, and literature discussions.

Further on evaluation

The assessment in the course consists a group assignment (50%) and an individual portfolio exam consisting of a reflection diary (20%) and an essay (30%). More detailed information about the exam will be given at the start of the semester.

There will be mandatory assignments, which must be approved before participating in the final exam.

There will be no resit exam in this course. All elements of the exam must be retaken on the next ordinary exam. Approved mandatory assignments remain valid for later.
