About the course

Course content

The aim of this module is to equip the students with the tools to express and share their knowledge and expertise beyond the bounds of academia, and through different forms and genres. The students will receive insight into- and be able to assess various forms of communication, such as blogs, academic articles, op-eds, etc. The students will complete communication projects of their own choosing, relevant to their own master thesis project.

Learning outcome

Upon successful completion of this module, students will have knowledge of:
- different forms of research communication (oral and written)
- different genres (blogs, op-eds, interviews, etc.)
- social media and traditional media as communication channels
- how to communicate expertise and academic knowledge in a clear and specific manner.

Students who complete the module will also:
- master different forms of communication
- have knowledge of different media and different genres for scientific outreach
- be able to assess the communication of others
- be able to produce their own texts and presentations

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars, and compulsory assignments.

Compulsory assignment: Over the course of the semester each student will do an oral presentation of a project idea that will form the basis for the exam (see below).

The students are required to keep posted on messages from the department or teacher at Blackboard.

The exam is an individual project of the students’ own choosing, to be worked on under supervision throughout the semester and later published online. Information about the scope of the project will be instructed by the course director in the beginning of the semester.

Filmvitenskap (MFILM)
Medievitenskap (MMVIT)

Required previous knowledge

Requires admission to the Master's programme in Film and Media Studies.
