Course content

The course focuses mainly on health status, disease/injury and risk factors, however the geography of health services at different levels is also discussed. The main emphasis is on health and diseases in developing countries. General trends in health and societal risk factors and environmental factors in different parts of the world are also covered. The course covers studies from quantitative and qualitative research traditions.
The course includes a presentation on health and medical literature in libraries and databases. Students' own reading will form the basis for writing a term paper. The term paper must be approved before the written examination can be taken.

Learning outcome

The course gives broad knowledge about health and related concepts within a geographical approach. Based on this body of knowledge and critical reflection the student should be able to carry out scientific work on selected geographical settings and communicate geography of health perspectives to others.

Learning methods and activities

16 hours lectures, 8 hours seminars. It is expected that compulsories and examinations must be completed in English. Exceptions must be clarified with the lecturer responsible for the course.

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester, or that compulsory activities are approved in a previous semester.
