About the course

Course content

The subject gives a broad introduction to theory of science, with emphasis on the history of science, the social organisation of the sciences and their dynamic, the strategies of the sciences regarding production of knowledge and the interaction between science and society. We focus particularly on the communication practices of the sciences and the establishment of scientific validity and trustworthiness. The following topics are also covered:
• Science as institution and practice
• Scientific ways of understanding: Hermeneutics, discourse and practice
• The modern research university and the modern scientist role
• Concept in the human sciences and interdisciplinary dialogic practices
• Ethics of research and science

Students who need 7,5 study points, have to choose KULT8850, where the demands of the term paper are relatively less.

Learning outcome

The subject gives a broad introduction to historical and sociological theory of science, with particular emphasis on the interaction between science and society.
