Course content

This course, together with MA0001, will give a sufficient mathematical background for science courses requiring only basic mathematics. The course should also enable students to continue with mathematics courses that normally require MA1101 Basic calculus I, and with some additional effort enable students to continue with courses that normally require MA1102 Basic calculus II. The course will introduce functions of several variables, partial differentiation, double integrals, linear approximation, linear equations, matrices, eigen-values, differential equations, and systems of differential equations.

Learning outcome

1. Knowledge. The student has basic knowledge of linear algebra, differential equations and mathematical analysis of functions of several variables.

2. Skills. The student is able to apply his or knowledge of linear algebra, differential equations and functions of several variables to solve simple problems from mathematics and the natural sciences.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and exercises. Course grade based on written final examination. Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.
