About the course
Course content
The course is a basic course in cognitive psychology (theory and method). Cognitive Psychology is used throughout the entire range of human knowledge, perception, activity, speech processing, problem solving and thinking about learning and memory. The course will give students knowledge of the most important concepts, themes, problems and empirical research in modern cognitive theory as it concerns how we receive, interpret, edit, use and save information. The course will deal with the study of both general traits and individual differences.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
The student has basic knowledge of cognitive psychology.
The student has knowledge of how human cognition works from attention, sensation, perception, action, language processes, problem solving and thinking to learning and memory.
The student has knowledge of the key methods used in modern cognitive psychology research.
Skills:
The student can analyze and discuss scientific issues within the subject area.
The student can express themselves by writing in a way that is appropriate to communicate the essential content of the relevant discipline.
General competence:
The student has developed a scientific attitude comprising the ability of reflection and logic reasoning.
The student has developed an ability of critical thinking including respect for scientific data and ethical values.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures 2 hours per week, studygroups.
Some lectures might be given in English.
