About the course

Course content

Dimensional analysis. Scaling. Perturbation analysis, dynamical models. Conservation laws. Applications from engineering and natural sciences. Case studies.

Learning outcome

The course aims to impart a knowledge of principles and methods for formulating and analyzing mathematical models of systems and processes from engineering and science.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and a modelling seminar in groups. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade awarded in the course. This portfolio comprises a written final examination, 75%, and the modeling seminar, 25%. The results for the constituent parts are to be given in %-points, while the grade for the whole portfolio (course grade) is given by the letter grading system. Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.
