About

Dr. Arvind Sharma is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology, NTNU, Gjøvik campus, Norway. He has more than 15 years of experience across academia, applied research, laboratory development, international R&D projects and industry-oriented technology evaluation. His research focuses on hardware security, hardware reverse engineering, embedded system security, side-channel analysis, fault injection, firmware analysis, digital forensics, cyber-physical systems security, smart grid cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure assurance.

He holds a PhD in Smart Grid and Microgrid Systems from the University of Agder, Norway, an M.Tech. in Energy Systems from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), and a B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering. At NTNU, he leads activities in the Hardware Reverse Engineering Laboratory, has served as Deputy Head of the Digital Forensics Group, and is Programme Coordinator for the Bachelor Programme in Digital Infrastructure and Cyber Security (DIGSEC). He teaches and coordinates courses, including Hardware Security in Embedded Systems (IIK-4100) and Introduction to Digital Forensics (IMT 4114).He supervises bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral-level research in hardware security, digital forensics, embedded systems, smart grids and critical infrastructure security. 

Prior to NTNU, Dr. Sharma worked at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), India, where he helped establish ISO 17025–accredited testing laboratories under the World Bank’s Lighting Global Programme and contributed to the Lighting a Billion Lives© initiative, impacting millions globally. He has led or contributed to several national and international projects funded or supported by organisations such as the Research Council of Norway, the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, the International Finance Corporation, World Bank/IFC programmes, DFID, SNV Netherlands, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, Indian Railways and the Bureau of Indian Standards. His project portfolio covers hardware security assurance, AI for digital forensics, hardware reverse engineering, smart grids, renewable-energy microgrids, PV quality infrastructure and international capacity building.

He has authored several publications in reputable journals and conferences, delivered keynote talks, invited lectures, workshops, and training programmes, and participated in international conferences, including activities linked to international energy and cybersecurity programmes.

Norwegian Centre for Cybersecurity in Critical Sectors

SFI NORCICS strengthens cybersecurity and resilience in Norway’s critical sectors through research-based innovation, developing socio-technical methods, tools, training and validation for detecting, preventing and mitigating cyberattacks on CPS/ICS.

Norway-India: Strengthening Institutional Partnerships for Advancing Smart City Security and Resilience through AI-driven Digital Forensic

The project strengthens Norway–India educational partnerships in smart city security by promoting student mobility, AI and cybersecurity integration, and interdisciplinary research and innovation for sustainable smart city development.

Microgrid Intergation

The project investigated solar PV microgrid integration in India, addressing technical, reliability, efficiency and financial challenges, developing smart microgrid architecture, demand-side management approaches and a roadmap for large-scale deployment.
