My current research is affiliated with the DREAMS project (Design Re-Engineering and Automation for Marine Systems).
Previous research (PhD)
Within my previous PhD project (2019-2023), that was affiliated with the SFI Smart Maritime research center, I have been working on the conceptual design of low-emission ships. The work has addressed the two research questions:
RQ 1) How to effectively explore and synthesize low-emission conceptual ship designs?
RQ 2) What is an effective method for selecting among alternative ship fuels and power systems under lifetime uncertainty and considering flexibility?
The work has resulted in the following three main contributions:
C 1) The coupling of a set-based approach with modular system-based ship design, a systems architectural model and discrete-event simulation for a case-dependent evaluation of conceptual designs
C 2) A method for the selection of the optimal ship fuel and power systems considering
flexibility throughout the lifetime
C 3) An extension of the deterministic selection method (C2) that concurrently considers
uncertainty through multiple stochastic scenarios
