Caitlin Mandeville
About
As a conservation scientist, I harness interdisciplinary approaches to understand changing environments and promote socioecological resilience. I believe it is essential to work in partnership with the communities affected by environmental management issues, and I commonly engage in these partnerships through community science, citizen science, and collaboration with management agencies, nonprofits, and community groups.
I am currently a PhD candidate at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where I am part of the Department of Natural History and the Centre for Biodiversity Dynamics. My doctoral research is about putting biodiversity citizen science data to use for biodiversity research and conservation, with a special focus on management of protected areas. Much of this work is done in partnership with NTNU's Transforming Citizen Science for Biodiversity working group.
Before my doctoral research, I completed my MS at the University of Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, coordinated coastal community science with NH Sea Grant and the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, and contributed to hands-on conservation and ecological education across the US. Outside of work you'll usually find me outdoors, most often trail running and skiing or, true to my Wisconsin roots, on or near a lake.
