About

David Fürstenberg holds a master's degree within landscape architecture and landscape planning from University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna from 2006. Already during his study he was interessted in IT in general and especially in BIM. I 2007 he started working in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen) and in 2014 the multinational consulting company COWI hired him as BIM manager for infrastructure projects of different size. David is still employed by COWI and takes his PhD as an industry PhD. At NTNU he assists in supervising master students within the fields of information management and digital transformation of AEC.

PhD topic: "Information management and digital transformation in AEC projects"

Supervisors Ola Lædre and Ole Jonny Klakegg

Period: 2018-2023

Purpose: David will research on which sources of information are most relevant in the digital transformation of the AEC industry; more precisely

  • What type of information is typically generated in today's BIM based projects?
  • How is the information used?
  • In which project phase is the information generated?
  • What are the consequences of the available information?
  • Is there a connection between information-rich models and an efficient progress?

The research is based on several case projects; the methodology used is Action Research and Design Science Research.
