About
I'm a Researcher on the LEGACIES project, led by Professor Charles Butcher. The project aims to understand how historical and precolonial states can shape present-day institutions and dynamics of dissent, and is funded by the European Research Council.
My research interests broadly cover topics related to peace and conflict studies, such as the causes, dynamics and consequences of mass mobilisation, displacement and peace. More specifically, I am interested in understanding how local areas and populations are affected by disastrous events, such as conflict, displacement and climate extremes, to assess best practices for building and fostering durable, resilient communities in times of crises.
My PhD thesis, Displacement and discontent: Consequences of displacement on local host communities (funded by the Research Council Norway and hosted at the Peace Research Institute Oslo), combined quasi-experimental, explorative and qualitative research designs to study the impact of displacement on African host communities, focusing on political trust, social unrest and community cohesion.
Additionally, I'm interested in the connection between individual attitudes and intended political behaviour, for example through how prejudice can explain political action, or how various degrees of perceived threat can influence willingness to defend the state.
