Elin Angelo
About
Elin Angelo (PhD) is Professor of Music Education at NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She currently serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Music, with responsibilities for research and development, equality, inclusion, and diversity. Prior to this, she was employed at the Department of Teacher Education at the same university, following many years at Queen Maud University College of Early Childhood Education. She has also had part-time engagement at Nord University and at the University of Örebro. Elin has teaching experience from the municipal schools of music and arts, wind bands, kindergarten, primary school, and upper secondary education. She also has professional experience as a military musician, freelance musician and from combining several positions at the same time.
Elin teaches bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students in music education, qualitative research methods, and philosophy of science. Her research interests are particularly related to municipal schools of music and arts and higher music education. From 2022 to 2024, she led the University Music and Arts School Project (UniKuP), a partnership between Trondheim Municipal School of Music and Arts, the Department of Music, and the Department of Teacher Education (NTNU). She is one of the founders of the Nordic Network for Research on Community Schools of Music and Arts, and from 2015 to 2017 she led the research project IRISforsk, which brought together researchers from music education, teacher education, educational leadership, and school development.
From 2018 to 2023, she chaired the research network Music Education in Development (MiU) and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed publication series MusPed:Research. From 2021 to 2024, she participated as work package leader and researcher in the Research Council of Norway-funded project OutMus, and from 2014 to 2017 as researcher in the project Discourses of Academization and the Music Profession in Higher Music Education (DAPHME). Her work has been published in journals including Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education, International Journal of Community Music, Nordic Research in Music Education Yearbook, The Nordic Journal of Cultural Policy, Acta Didactica Norge, and Journal for Research in Arts and Sports Education.
She holds degree-granting qualifications from the Conservatory of Music in Tromsø, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, the Norwegian Academy of Music, and NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
