Frode Flemsæter
About
I work with rural and regional geography. My research focuses on the development and management of places and landscapes, often at the intersection of nature and culture. Much of my research has revolved around the valuation of various types of natural and cultural resources, how these resources gain new or renewed value as a basis for local and regional development, and the consequences of this. For example, I have studied how cultural values are used as a foundation for place development, and how the revaluation of natural resources brings new challenges—where, on one hand, local development is pursued, and on the other, important natural values must be preserved. This includes, not least, the relationship between land use and both formal and informal use and ownership rights to cultural and natural resources.
