About

Assistant Professor in Social Studies, specialising in geography education, and PhD candidate

Hilde Storrøsæter is an Assistant Professor of Geography at NTNU and a PhD candidate at the Department of Teacher Education (ILU). She teaches in the primary and lower secondary teacher education programmes for grades 1–7 and 5–10, as well as courses for international exchange students. Her teaching is primarily related to geography education and topics such as inquiry-based teaching, maps and geographical methods, sustainability, and economic geography.

In her PhD project, Hilde investigates how greater flexibility and increased student influence during teaching practice can help strengthen the connection between what students learn at university and the experiences they gain in schools. She follows a project in which student teachers are given greater opportunities to influence the content and organisation of their own teaching practice, and examines how this may support their professional development as future teachers. The project combines qualitative and quantitative methods and follows the development and implementation of a more flexible model of teaching practice at NTNU.

Hilde also participates in GeoTasKit, an Erasmus+ project that brings together teacher educators and researchers from several European countries. The project develops and tests teaching tasks designed to strengthen students’ geographical thinking and contribute to the further development of geography education.

Before joining NTNU, Hilde worked for nine years as an upper secondary school teacher in Trøndelag and Oslo. She taught subjects including geography, human geography, social studies, social science, economics, and English. During the implementation of the LK20 curriculum reform, she was also involved in the development of the geography curricula through subject-specific advisory groups.
