About

CV

Hugo Rodrigues de Brito is currently a Ph.D. candidate at PSOA/IEL/NTNU, focusing on "Coordinated Voltage Regulation Strategies for Long-Term Reactive Power Management and Minimization of Network Losses". His research is a part of the ongoing SysOpt project, Work Package 2.

Hugo holds both a B.Sc. degree (2017) and a M.Sc. degree (2019) in Electric Power Engineering from Federal University of Pará (UFPA), Brazil. He has experience with power system theory, modelling, dynamic simulation and analysis, particularly regarding voltage stability and control for transmission & distribution networks.

Competencies

  • Coordinated Voltage Control
  • Long-Term Voltage Stability
  • Power System Modelling and Analysis
  • Reactive Power Management
  • Transmission & Distribution Networks

Research

Current research interests:

  • Hierarchical voltage control, especially secondary and tertiary layers;
  • Real-time coordination of reactive power resources (generators, capacitor/reactor banks, SVCs, ...);
  • Operation of on-load tap changer (OLTC) transformers and generator over-excitation limiter (OEL) protection;
  • Dynamic simulations in Python and PSS®E environments.
  • Power System Operation and Analysis (PSOA) Group

System Optimization between power producer and grid owners (SysOpt)

SysOpt aims to optimize the interface between power producer and grid owners by developing more efficient system services, thus ensuring operational security of the future energy system. Partners: USN, NTNU, Statnett, Statkraft, Skagerak Energi and Lede.
