About

My doctoral research traces the motif of home (heim) as it permeates Nynorsk poetry from the middle of the 19th century and into the 1920s. Specifically, I look at the poetry and prose of Ivar Aasen, Arne Garborg and Kristofer Uppdal. Their works feature the "heim" motif constantly, as a means of defining a Nynorsk literary philosophy. This project is a part of the NTNU and NFR research project ImagiNation. Mapping the Imagined Geographies of Norwegian Literature from 1814 to 1905.

I am also a member of the International Research Training Group Baltic Peripeties. Narratives of Reformations, Revolutions and Catastrophes (Greifswald, Tartu, Trondheim, funded by the German Research Foundation).

My research is focused on 19th and early 20th century Norwegian literature, with a particular focus on Henrik Ibsen, Arne Garborg, Kristofer Uppdal and Henrik Rytter. Furthermore, I am interested in literary history and literary theory.

Main academic interests include:

  • Translation theory
  • 20th century French philosophy
  • Martin Heidegger
  • Walter Benjamin
  • Philosophical aesthetics
  • Henrik Ibsen and Scandinavian modern drama
  • The modern breakthrough in Scandinavia
  • German Romanticism
