About

CV

Julie Malenfant-Lepage is a postdoctoral researcher in the SMARTer Maintenance of Road Infrastructure research program at NTNU. Her work focuses on improving the detection of areas affected by inadequate road drainage and developing decision-making tools for the rapid diagnosis of drainage issues, using 3D road scanning and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data.

She is a geological engineer who completed both her master’s and doctoral degrees in the Department of Civil Engineering at Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada. Her research in northern engineering focused on mitigation techniques to reduce permafrost degradation beneath transportation infrastructure, as well as the design of road drainage systems that limit convective heat transfer and erosion in permafrost regions.

Julie specializes in multidisciplinary research, with interests spanning a wide range of scientific domains, including cold regions engineering, permafrost science, road engineering, geotechnics, hydrology, and soil erosion. As part of her academic journey, she has had the opportunity to visit several Arctic regions, including Svalbard, Greenland, Russia, Alaska, northern Quebec, and the Yukon in Canada.
