About Outreach

About

I am a PhD Candidate in Musicology and Interdisciplinary Ocean Studies. My research project examines traditional music in Kalaallit Nunaat, Inuit beliefs and philosophy and artistic practice informed by oceans. I am interested in music ontological questions that concern listening and sound-based practices as something more-than-human and the ethical and scientific implications of music analysis as well as possibilities and limitations of western music analysis. I am also learning about socioecological dimensions of making qilaatit (Inuit frame drums) in a Kalaallit context while mindful that Inuit drumming culture is borderless across Inuit Nunaat.

My project is an interdisciplinary endeavour informed by environmental humanities, ethnomusicology and ecomusicology.
