Van Lam Nguyen
About
Dr. Lam Van Nguyen is a researcher in Water Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway. He holds a PhD in Engineering from NTNU, with a research focus on the integration of Machine Learning and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for sewer condition assessment and visualization. His doctoral thesis, titled “Integrating Machine Learning and Geographic Information System for Sewer Condition Assessment and Visualization”, explores innovative approaches to enhance the reliability and efficiency of urban water infrastructure management through data-driven models.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Nguyen worked as a Senior Data Scientist at InfoTiles (Norway), where he developed predictive analytics and anomaly detection systems for smart water management using spatial and temporal data integration. He also served as a Lecturer at the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (Vietnam), teaching courses and conducting applied research in surveying, mapping, and geoinformatics.
His research interests span across machine learning applications in water systems, GIS-based hydrological modeling, urban drainage infrastructure assessment, data visualization, and augmented reality for environmental monitoring. He has published extensively in high-impact journals such as Water, IEEE Access, Urban Water Journal, and Advances in Space Research, contributing to the advancement of intelligent water infrastructure modeling and spatial decision-support systems.
At NTNU, Dr. Nguyen is currently developing web-based visualization platforms for hydrodynamic and water quality simulations using Delft3D, bridging the gap between scientific modeling, data processing, and interactive web technologies. His interdisciplinary work connects civil engineering, computer science, and environmental informatics to support sustainable urban water management.
