Background and activities

 

 

Marek E. Jasinski is Professor Dr. of Archaeology at the Institute of Historical Studies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. His main research interests have been Maritime Archaeology, Mediaeval and Post-Medieval Archaeology of the European Arctic; Archaeology and Cultural History of Contemporary Past, Heritage Studies and Managemnt; Conflict Archaeology and Cultural History. He has been leader and Norwegian co-leader of several major research projects in Norway, Russia, Poland, Greece, Argentina, Mexico, United Arab Emirates and Bulgaria. During the last years he has been leading the Deep-Water Archaeology Project Ormen Lange and interdisciplinary project Painful Heritage: Cultural landscapes of the Second World War in Norway. Phenomenology, Lessons and Management Systems. At present he is one of key-partners of the international research project RECALL funded by EU Culture Program; Research Group Member of Terrorscapes: Transnational Memory of Totalitarian Terror and Genocide in Postwar Europe at NIAS, the Netherlands; and Member of the Research Team of Polska Baza Genetyczna Ofiar Totalitaryzmow (Polish Genetic Database of Victims of Totalitarian Regimes).
