About
I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Social Work, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). My academic background is interdisciplinary, with a primary foundation in psychology and health sciences.
My research focuses on mental health and quality of life, psychosocial resources, social support and relationships, human development, and the ways in which individual and social factors shape health and well-being across the life course.
I hold an MSc in Social and Community Psychology (2005) and a PhD in Health Sciences (2015), both from NTNU. My doctoral dissertation, Religiousness: Associations to Existential Well-Being and Social Support in a Secular Norwegian Context, explored the relationships between religiousness, existential well-being, psychosocial resources, and social support in a relatively secular Norwegian setting.
A central theme throughout my research has been understanding the factors that contribute to mental health, development, quality of life, and resilience, and how these outcomes are shaped through the interaction between individuals and their social environments. This has led me to work across a range of research areas, including existential health, meaning in life, psychosocial resources, child development, education, and mental health from a life-course perspective.
Methodologically, I have primarily worked with quantitative research methods, including longitudinal studies and the analysis of large-scale datasets. In recent years, I have also increasingly incorporated qualitative approaches into my research.
My current interests include the application of psychological and health-related knowledge to issues relevant to social work, particularly ageing, social inequality, vulnerable populations, social innovation, and service development. I also have a growing interest in the opportunities and challenges associated with generative artificial intelligence in higher and professional education.
Alongside my academic work, I am currently completing professional training in Gestalt therapy at the Norwegian Gestalt Institute. This training complements my academic background by providing additional perspectives on relational processes, human development, and change.
