Visual methods for mapping and monitoring of benthic habitats

In my PhD project I explore new methods for using visual information to map and monitoring benthic habitats with unmanned underwater vehicles. One of the main focus areas of my research is the development of robust methods to color correct and register images in the presence of change. This allows for automation of large-scale data processing for benthic monitoring programs extending over multiple years. These methods form the foundation for developing datasets with consistent visual and geometric information between visits, which is crucial for enabling the development and evaluation of new methods based on learning from spatial correspondences between revisits.
