About Research Teaching

About

I am a PhD Candidate at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NTNU, with a background in geomatics engineering, urban planning, and sustainable transport.

My research focuses on universal design in pedestrian infrastructure, with particular attention to how universally designed solutions function in everyday use and under changing operational and seasonal conditions. I am especially interested in accessibility, usability, maintenance, reliability, and the role of trust in shaping people’s willingness to rely on pedestrian infrastructure.

Before starting my PhD, I completed an MSc in Urban Ecological Planning at NTNU. My master’s research examined perceived accessibility and ease of travel among university students in Trondheim.
I also have extensive professional experience in geomatics, cartography, GIS, GNSS, and spatial analysis.

Alongside my research, I contribute to coordinating and teaching in TBM4345- sustainable transport and transport infrastructure.

Research

My PhD research focuses on universal design of pedestrian infrastructure, with particular attention to how universally designed solutions function in everyday use and over time.

The research examines the relationship between the intended performance of universal design measures and people’s actual experiences of using pedestrian environments. This includes questions of whether infrastructure is accessible, usable, continuous, understandable, safe, predictable, and reliably maintained under real-world conditions.

A particular focus of my work is the role of trust in pedestrian infrastructure. I investigate how people develop confidence in universally designed solutions and whether they can rely on these solutions to support safe, independent, and usable everyday mobility. This involves considering not only the physical design of infrastructure, but also its operational reliability, maintenance, seasonal functionality, and performance under changing conditions such as snow, ice, surface conditions, lighting, and traffic interaction.
