CV

Mladen Veletić is a researcher at the Department of Electronic Systems, NTNU, and the Technology and Innovation Clinic (The Intervention Centre), Oslo University Hospital. He is the author of 40+ academic papers published in leading journals and conferences of communications engineering, bioengineering, and medicine. 

In his earlier career, Mladen Veletić completed a Ph.D. in Electronics and Telecommunications at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, NTNU, and worked as a Senior Teaching and Research Assistant at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Banja Luka. He currently holds a Visiting Assistant Professor position at the Department of Telecommunications at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Banja Luka.

Mladen Veletić serves as Editor in the IEEE Communications Letters.

Research

Mladen Veletić's research interest is in applying communication and information engineering approaches to establish models and theories of biological communication systems that are envisioned to lead to breakthrough theranostic (therapeutic & diagnostic) medical intervention.

Internet of Bio-NanoThings for Prediction and Prevention of Infectious Diseases (CLIPEUS)

CLIPEUS aims at creating a communications network among man-made implantable devices and the natural cells inside the body, focusing on the detection of infections based on the detection of ​molecular communication among infectious bacteria.

Communication Theoretical Foundation of Wireless Nanonetworks (CIRCLE)

CIRCLE designs biological cells that can transmit information to neighboring cells and cells placed far away. The developed engineered cells are tested in cell and organoid cultures with imaging tools.

Next-generation Theranostics of Brain Pathologies with Autonomous Externally Controllable Nanonetworks: a Trans-disciplinary Approach with Bionanodevice Interfaces (GLADIATOR)

GLADIATOR provides a working prototype of a complete and autonomous molecular communication system based on the conceptual framework of Externally Controllable Molecular Communications (ECMC), using Glioblastoma Multiforme tumors as a case​study.

Wireless In-body Sensor and Actuator Networks (WINNOW)

WINNOW develops a program that focuses on two very specific research areas, radio and molecular communication technologies, toward the ​understanding of the clinical and commercial aspects of wireless in-body medical device development.

Implants with Sensing Capabilities

This is an extensive study on implant integrating (bio)sensors which will enable real-time monitoring and improvements in implant function (study published in one the highly regarded and highest-ranked journals published by the American Chemical Society).

Extracellular Vesicle-Mediated Communication Nanonetworks: Opportunities and Challenges

This paper presents a fundamental molecular communication network framework for extracellular vesicle-mediated communication, whose understanding is yet obscure.

Synaptic Communication Engineering for Future Cognitive Brain–Machine Interfaces

This is a study about pioneering information and molecular communication theoretical models that can serve as core modules of the synaptically-interactive nanoscale devices that monitor information transfer over neural synapses.

  • TTT4130 - Digital Communication

TTT4130 gives a fundamental introduction to the principles and systems for the digital transmission of information over channels with Gaussian noise, including basic transmission and reception strategies, as well as an understanding of expected performance and performance limits.

Through project work, the course gives the student skills in the simulation of and experimentation with real transmitter and receiver hardware, as well as experimentation planning and reporting.

The course topics are: - Linear baseband digital (PAM) modulation, - upconversion and linear (QAM) and nonlinear (FSK) passband digital modulation, - Maximum a-Posteriori and Maximum Likelihood detection, non-coherent detection, - transmission bandwidth, Nyquist pulses, sampling and intersymbol interference, - Gaussian noise, and related error analysis in symbol detection, - Gaussian channel capacity, coding, convolutional codes, decoding, and error analysis, - signal space, signal constellations, equivalent baseband model, and - tradeoffs between energy, data rate and error rate.
