  • Advanced nonlinear structural analysis of FOWTs.
  • Fluid-structure interaction for FOWTs including nonlinear structural mechanics.
  • Structural health monitoring of marine structures using inverse Finite Element Method (iFEM).
  • Ultimate limit state design of floating offshore wind turbines in the Pan-Arctic.
  • Corrosion fatigue of marine structures using a stochastic pit generation algorithm.
  • Buckling/post-buckling behaviour of stiffened panels.
  • Ice mechanics, ice material modelling, and ice-structure interaction simulations.
  • Coupled thermal-stress analysis of marine steel structures subject to cryogenic spill.

Independent / collaborative:

  • Automatic rapid and realistic 3D modelling of complex-shaped pitting corrosion profiles in all scales (short-term and long-term).
  • Identification and real-time monitoring of pitting corrosion and fatigue damage using the inverse Finite Element Method (iFEM).

Completed Research Projects

  • A non-linear viscoelastic material model with progressive damage based on microstructural evolution and phase transition in polycrystalline ice for design against ice impact.
  • Plasticity-based material modelling of ice using a pressure and rate dependent yield criterion.
  • Damage assessment of high-speed aluminium hull crafts subjected to ice impact.
  • Failure assessment of pitting corroded steel pipelines (experimental, numerical, analytical).
  • Automation of 3D finite element modelling for flawed pipeline girth welds.
  • A novel strengthening technique using CFRPs for steel pipelines subject to accidental external loads (focusing on faulting and explosion). 
  • Perforation of non-rigid projectiles into thick steel plates: A numerical study.
