Nafiseh Mohammadi
About
Nafiseh is a researcher with a background in geomatics engineering, GIS, and spatial analysis, with experience spanning urban management, winter road maintenance, and transport infrastructure.
Before joining NTNU, she worked for several years with GIS and spatial data at the ICT Organization of Tehran Municipality, where her work focused on spatial data production and analysis, as well as the development and application of geospatial solutions for urban management and decision-making. Her earlier academic research also explored urban dynamics through agent-based modelling and simulation.
She completed her PhD at NTNU’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2026, focusing on GIS-based simulation and modelling of winter road maintenance services. Her research combined spatial analysis, weather and road data, and statistical modelling to better understand maintenance operations and support strategic decision-making for winter maintenance of state roads.
She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the same department, collaborating with NTNU’s AI for Decisions (AID) Centre through the “AID for Winter Maintenance” use case. Her research supports the application of AI models in operational winter maintenance decision-making, with a particular focus on data analysis, domain knowledge integration, and trustworthy AI.
Alongside her research, she has experience teaching applied GIS for urban management at Tehran Municipality’s Science and Technology College, as well as contributing to academic lectures and co-supervising master's theses at NTNU.
Her research interests include GIS and spatial analysis, GeoAI, winter maintenance, road-weather studies, cold-region engineering, agent-based simulation, AI-supported decision-making, and sustainable and resilient transport infrastructure.
