Background and activities

In my PhD project, I use genomic data to study speciation-with-gene-flow in peat-producing plant genus Sphagnum (peat moss). The role of gene flow for speciation is a controversial topic since it has been reported as both constraining and promoting factor for speciation in different groups of organisms. As peat moss is a good model for studying this topic, my project aims to explore the consequences of differences in gene flow levels between and within species for speciation using this group of plants. My research interests cover evolutionary biology in general with focus on evolutionary genomics and hybridization.
