I work on performance analysis using dependency graphs of static instructions to understand how optimizing individual instructions affects overall program performance. A common problem in performance analysis and software optimization is that an optimization may improve performance—or fail to do so—without it being clear why. One aim of my research is to develop methods for understanding these effects better and to predict the improvement in program performance of a given optimization.
