Industrial PhD Project - Circular Business Development in the Offshore Wind Industry

Pankaj’s Industrial PhD project at NTNU, carried out within FME NorthWind’s Work Package 5 on Sustainable Wind Development, explores how circular economy principles can be effectively integrated into the offshore wind industry. His research bridges academic insights with managerial and policy perspectives, aiming to foster a more holistic and systemic adoption of sustainable circular economy practices in the sector.

Furthermore, his research has broader applications that extend beyond the offshore wind sector and has contributed to identifying pathways to improve circular economy adoption in other major multi-stakeholder industries, such as the Norwegian fisheries and aquaculture sector, as well as the solar PV and electric vehicle industries. By developing relevant analytical frameworks, policy and practical guidelines, his research supports researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in accelerating the transition toward a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.

Research interests

Pankaj’s research interests lie in the areas of sustainable circular economy, sustainable value chain analysis, environmental impact assessment (EIA), and life cycle assessment (LCA). His work focuses on understanding and advancing strategies that enable more resource‑efficient systems, support sustainable industry transformation, and reduce environmental impacts across sectors.

Educational Background

Pankaj holds an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Renewable Energy in the Marine Environment, completed through studies at the University of Strathclyde in the UK, the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in Spain, and École Centrale de Nantes in France. He also earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mumbai, India.
