About

I research on language in interaction. I am mainly interested in grammatical phenomena in conversations (such as negation and particles), social actions (e.g., requests), and the use of gestures and other resources to build meaning in spoken language. I also investigate language-specific features by comparing Norwegian and Polish and examining Norwegian as a second language in interaction. Another area I work in is forensic linguistics, with a focus on police interviews.

I am a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Norsk Lingvistisk Tidsskrift (NLT).

Research interests:

  • Conversation analysis and interactional linguistics (grammar in interaction)
  • Multimodality in interaction (bodily and material resources and the synchronization of their use with speech)
  • Forensic linguistics (police interviews with suspects)
  • Second language pragmatics (Norwegian as a second language in context)
  • Comparative grammar and pragmatics (similarities and differences between languages)
  • Social cognition and language

Police investigative interviews in Norwegian as a Second Language – Communicative Challenges and Solutions

The overarching aim of this project is to identify sources of communication problems in interviews conducted in Norwegian as L2, and to identify solutions that prove effective in averting and repairing them.

Uncooperativeness and Second Language Acquisition: Conversation-Analytic Perspectives

The scientific network Uncooperativeness and Second Language Acquisition: Conversation analytic perspectives investigates uncooperative behavior in interactions involving L2 speakers.

Interaction-Regulating Particles in Scandinavian Languages

This project aims to conduct a systematic investigation into pragmatic particles that are characteristic of conversational language and central to organizing the interaction between parties to a conversation.
