Randi Dyblie Nilsen

About

Since January 2021: Professor emerita at Department of Education and Lifelong Learning, Faculty of Social Sciences and Education, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim.

Employed as professor in Sociology of childhood since 2006 at Norwegian Centre for Child Research (NOSEB), NTNU. (Norwegian Centre for Child Research was integrated into Dept. of Education and Lifelong Learning NTNU in 2016). From autumn 1998 engaged in various larger research projects concerning children, childhoods and early education and care Institutions (Mostly funded by Norwegian research council). Earlier employment at Department of Education NTNU and the former research institute ALLFORSK, Centre for Social Research.

Research interests
Child and childhood research: Theoretical perspectives and methodological questions, cultural analytical approaches, children's everyday life, generational relations, child and adult practices and early education and care institutions ('barnehagen'), socialisation and cultural (re)production, power, control, resistance and agency, children and childhood as socially constructed, children and childhood in relation to social and material contexts, nature, majority - minority relations, disability, normalising processes and chilhood discourses.

Earlier teaching and supervision
MPhil courses and Phd courses in Childhood Studies: Coordinator and main lecturer at the theory course BARN 3101/BARN 8101 Social Studies of Children and Childhood: Research Perspectives. Master thesis seminar for 2nd year students. Supervised more than 40 master students at the international Mphil program in Childhood studies.

Coordinator for the Phd program, Interdisiplinary Child Research (‘Tverrfaglig barneforskning’). Supervised 5 students who have been granted the Phd degree. Presently supervisor of one Phd student.

Member of European Sociological Association (ESA) since 2003. In collaboration with prof. Jo Moran-Ellis (UK) and prof. Madeleine Leonard (UK) planning and establishing Sociology of Children and Childhood Research network 04 within ESA from 2007. Member of the international coordinator group for this network since 2007. (ESA has large conferences every 2nd year and network conferences every 2nd year).
