Research interests

Shunguo Wang implements new ideas in forward and inverse modeling and interprets field data of (radio) magnetotellurics, controlled-source electromagnetics, electrical resistivity tomography, etc. in different dimensions and environments. His developments have been used in various studies, such as:

1. Lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary

2. Fracture zones

3. Geohazards

4. CO2/Oil reservoir monitoring

5. Mineral exploration

Research

Middle Atlantic Ridge Study with Three-Dimensional Magnetotelluric novel Techniques (MARS3DMT)

MARS3DMT is to build a reliable three-dimensional resistivity model with magnetotelluric data at Middle Atlantic Ridge. The model will improve the understanding of partial melts, melt fraction, and water content beneath the middle ocean ridges.

Using electromagnetic methods to study quick clays in Rissa

Rissa with identified quick clays (QC) and a QC landslide is an ideal location to study QC. The electrical resistivity property of QC is higher than the surrounding marine clays. Therefore, electromagnetic methods are natural for QC studies.
