Simen Dalen Taraldsen
About
I am an architectural historian specializing in the history of early modern architectural theory in Italy and France. I am especially interested in the impact of the scientific revolution of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries on the complex nexus between architectural theory and developments in architecture-related science and technology. The topic of my PhD thesis pertains to the architectural theory of Guarino Guarini (1624-1683), with a particular focus on its treatment of stereotomy.
I am affiliated with to two European research projects related to the COST Action: A Glossary of Technical Construction Vocabulary in 17th-18th Century European Court Residences (EUROGLOSS) (CA24102) and LEonardo's Codex Atlanticus and other miscellaneous Folios: A Digital Reconstruction (LEAF) (CA24143).
I am a board member of Norsk selskap for 1700-tallsstudier (Norwegian Association for Eighteenth Century Studies), and a contributor to Store Norske Leksikon (national online encyclopedia of Norway), responsible for the categories Arkitektur i den greske antikken (Ancient Greek architecture) and Romersk arkitektur (Ancient Roman architecture).
