Stian Backe
About
Stian Backe is an adjunct associate professor II at the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management (IØT). He has a MSc in Energy Analysis and Optimization from the University of Bergen, and he defended his PhD in Industrial Economics and Technology Management from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2021. He is also a Research Manager at SINTEF Energy Research.
Coordinator of stochastic energy system model EMPIRE.
Research topic: Techno-economic analysis of markets and regulations for energy resources on the transition towards the low carbon society.
Research questions:
- How are long-term investments impacted by short-term operations and uncertainty in the energy system on the transition towards the low carbon society?
- How can energy services across the energy system sectors best coordinate on the transition towards the low carbon society (heat, electricity, and transport)?
- How can the regulatory framework best facilitate new opportunities for energy services from distributed energy resources, storage, and flexibility on the transition towards the low carbon society?
