Tina Bergh
About
I am a researcher that specialises in electron microscopy characterisation and corresponding data analysis. Currently, I am working in the catalysis group at the Department of Chemical Engineering (IKP) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
I enjoy the variety that comes with being a researcher, including lab work, data analysis, presenting results, writing journal articles and proposals, teaching, supervising students, travelling and collaborating with several people across disciplines!
During my PhD work at the Department of Physics, NTNU, I studied intermetallic phases formed at the welded interfaces between aluminium alloys and steels using electron microscopy techniques. I have a master’s degree in Nanotechnology for materials, energy and the environment from NTNU.
Main characterisation techniques:
- (Scanning) transmission electron microscopy ((S)TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
- Electron diffraction, including precession electron diffraction (PED), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and three-dimensional electron diffraction (3D ED)
- 4D-STEM, in particular the sub-category scanning precession electron diffraction (SPED)
- Spectroscopy performed in the electron microscope, including energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS / EDX) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS)
- In situ heating (and gas exposure) experiments performed in the electron microscope
Main material systems:
- Aluminium alloys, their precipitates and intermetallic phases
- Heterogeneous catalysts, in particular silver catalysts used in the methanol to formaldehyde process
- Various (supported) nanoparticle systems
Data analysis:
- I apply and develop open-source python-based data analysis workflows, primarily based on the repositories hyperspy and pyxem.
