About Publications

About

Wannan Tang a neuroscientist with background in clinical medicine. Her research profiles are in a broad neuroscience research range, such as in cellular and molecular neurobiology, two-photon imaging, electrophysiology and rAAV-mediated gene therapy development. She has completed her Master and PhD degrees at the Department of Molecular Neurobiology in Max Plank Institute for Medical Research Heidelberg, Germany, with the late Prof. Peter Seeburg and Dr. Rolf Sprengel as supervisors. Her PhD focused on cellular and molecular technologies to study neural circuits, including gene-manipulated mouse lines and virus mediated gene transfer in neurons. After her PhD, she started her research on glial cells, particularly on brain astrocytes. During year 2012-2020, she has designed and applied various molecular sensors and tools via rAAV gene transfer methods to study brain astrocytes in physiological and disease conditions using two-photon imaging in acute brain slices and in awake behaving animals. In 2017, she received Young Research Talents grant from Research Council of Norway and established her own research group. Since 2021 she has joined Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and her research interests were extended to roles of brain astrocytes in neurodegenerative diseases and aging. She is currently focusing on astrocytic functions in brain aging, neurodegeneration and metabolism using combination of various molecular tools, two-photon in vivo imaging and transcriptome studies. In addition, to expend her research competence in translational medicine, with her long-term expertise in rAAV engineering, she carries out projects on developing rAAV-mediated gene therapy treatments for various rare genetic disorders.
