Campus strategy

NTNU is an internationally oriented university with campuses in Trondheim, Gjøvik and Ålesund.

Despite its main profile in science and technology, NTNU offers a broad range of academic disciplines, with a focus on programmes of professional study. Our core tasks as a university are education, research, innovation and communication. NTNU in Gjøvik has educational and research activities linked to five faculties, represented by a total of nine departments, and is home to approximately 10% of NTNU’s student population. NTNU in Gjøvik delivers research and education related to industry, technology, safety, health, design and logistics.

NTNU in Gjøvik has a special responsibility to meet local needs in the region. The county of Innlandet is a region rich in opportunities, with large and internationally leading industrial players in defence, manufacturing and exports. Norway’s most modern hospital is currently being built in Moelv, and the region offers a wealth of natural resources, including Lake Mjøsa, as well as being a prominent agricultural area. In addition, Innlandet is home to a number of centres of excellence, business clusters, industrial players and academic institutions that are leaders in digital expertise, technology and bioeconomy.

Together, this framework provides excellent opportunities for collaboration between employers and NTNU. It is particularly interesting for NTNU to collaborate with industrial partners, the health sector and the armed forces.

The campus strategy for NTNU in Gjøvik is based on NTNU’s main strategy and must also be seen in the context of the various faculty and departmental strategies. The purpose of the campus strategy is to function as an overarching management and development tool for NTNU in Gjøvik, and it aims to contribute to the University achieving the three ambitions defined in the main strategy:

  1. NTNU is a leading international university.
  2. NTNU is a driving force for knowledge-based and sustainable social development.
  3. NTNU is an attractive academic community.
