Surface Analysis

Surface Analysis

The Mineral Processing Laboratory is equipped with various surface analysis techniques, which can be used to study the physical and chemical properties of solids and liquids. At Mineral Processing Laboratory we apply a wide state-of-art instruments to help understand how the materials surface properties (such as topography, texture, chemistry etc.) and surfactants (dose, type, foamability, stability etc.) affect the performance.

Available instruments:

Dynamic Foam Analyzer - DFA100 (KRÜSS Scientific) – to measure the foamability and stability of foams as well as liquid content. It also analyses the foam structure with regard to the bubble size distribution.

Multichannel Potentiostat - VSP-300 (BioLogic) –a versatile electrochemical workstation with 6 channels to perform all standard electrochemical techniques.

Zetasizer Nano Z –a laboratory benchtop system to measure the particle mobility and charge (zeta potential)

Zeta Potential Dispersion technology – to measure the zeta potential in concentrated dispersions and emulsions as well as sedimentation stability of a sample.

Sigma 700 Tensiometer – a computer-controlled instrument operated with OneAttension software to measure surface tension, interfacial tension, critical micelle concentration (CMC), dynamic contact angle, surface free energy, powder wettability, density and sedimentation.

Hach Lange Dr3900 Spektrofotometer – a benchtop visible spectrum (320 - 1100 nm), split beam spectrophotometer with over 220 pre-programmed methods optimised for laboratory water analysis.

Micrometrics Gemini VII – to rapidly and reliably produce accurate and repeatable surface area and porosity results.

Malvern Mastersizer 3000 – to measure the particle size and particle size distribution of materials from 10 nm to 3.5 mm.

Niton™ XL3t XRF Analyzer – a nondestructive x-radiation technique to perform accurate material characterization and sample analysis, with a standard analytical range for 25 elements - from S to U.
