The painting studio consists of a large room, with several work areas for preparation of materials for painting; mixing pigments, cooking glue, etc.
There are hardeners, thinners, and pigments available.
The studio also provides storage facilities and a separate, ventilated spray room.
Canvas and paper can be ordered directly from the studio assistant.

Photo Studio:
The photo studio is a large room with a high ceiling which can be used either in the complete dark or daylight situations. It has a choice of backgrounds and a wall where it is possible to document artworks such as paintings. The photo studio contains all that one might need for studio work, including four 1000W flash units, softboxes, and umbrellas.
Black & White Darkroom:
The black & white darkroom consists of three smaller rooms fully equipped with three enlargers ranging from 35mm to 5”x4” formats. The darkroom includes a film loading station and a communal space containing film and print dryers.
Digital Scanning and Printing room:
The digital scanning and printing room consists of four workstations powered by Mac computers. Each workstation is connected to a scanner and a printer. There are flatbed scanners and a Hasselblad Imacon roll bed scanner. The room also contains A2 printers, and a large format printer.

The Time-based media area is used for workshops, lectures and individual student work.
There is a sound room for recording and mixing, and two video editing suites.
Students can borrow equipment for production and exhibitions.
We have video cameras, dslr cameras, microphones, field recorders, sound mixers, sound cards, speakers, video projectors, screens, tripods, studio lights, cables, headsets.

Sound and Video Equipment:
- Digital:
Five full HD, 3500 lumen Optima projectors, two small handheld projectors that run on battery and with a built-in memory card, two Canon 5D Mark III and Mark II DSLR cameras, 2.5 K Black Magic Cinema Camera, two GoPros and a Sony Handicam. Two-channel and six-channel input sound mixers, H6 and H4 Zoom recorders, different microphones for interior recording and field recording work. Media players (Mac minis and multimedia drives).
- Analog:
Slide project and overhead projector.
- Monitors:
Several tv screens/monitors in different sizes, from 10 inches to 40 inches. Both LCD and CRT.
- Accessories:
Tripods, studio lights, cables, and headphones.

In the Wood Workshop, you will find a wide range of machines and tools. The workshop offers spacious work surfaces, providing a solid workspace for developing and producing your projects.
Our selection of machines includes:
Table saw / rip saw – precision cutting of wood
Bandsaw – for curved cuts and rough shaping of materials
Mitre saw – accurate cross-cutting of materials
Pillar drill / drill press – precise drilling in various materials
Jointer and thickness planer – for straightening and dimensioning timber
Router table / spindle moulder – for profiles and detailed woodworking
Wood lathe – shaping round objects
Sanding machines – for smooth and refined surfaces
Manual and electric hand tools – everything from traditional hand tools to power tools
3D printer – for producing custom models and components
We also offer limited facilities for simple metalworking, including:
- Metal cutting saw – cutting metal
- Sheet metal shear – cutting thin metal sheets
- Manual and electric hand tools
- Sheet metal brake (for thin sheets) – allows you to bend sheet metal as needed.
Gallery KIT

Gallery KiT is the Academy's exhibition space on the department premises.
The primarily gallery exhibits student work and hosts a variety of events arranged by members of the Academy, other departments of NTNU and the larger artistic community in Trondheim.
The gallery space is approximately 350 m2 and comprises four areas and a black box for film screening.
Parallel to the program in the gallery space, a Window Gallery Space – KiTx – runs a separate, weekly program of student work.

The Fine Art Library serves the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art. It opened in 1988, initially in the context of the Academy, and was incorporated into NTNU Library in 1997.
The Fine Art Library has an extensive collection of printed books, encyclopedia, and journals in the relevant subject areas, in addition to various graphic prints. The library also a collection of fanzines, artist books, DVDs.
The Fine Art Library offers many kinds of workspaces spread around the library. Individual workspaces are available, and you can book a group room. The library has both PCs and Macs available for NTNU students and staff, as well as facilities for both scanning and printing.
The material we do not own can often be borrowed from other libraries. Through the Oria database, you can access the collections of 17 different libraries located throughout NTNU, as well as research libraries in Norway.
