Nordig AI Lab, visual design element

Visual graphic element for the Nordig AI Lab

Infotext Nordig AI Lab

The Nordig Lab is a joint laboratory between NTNU Geomatics and the Department of Survey and Mapping of Trondheim Municipality. The general tasks of this joint lab are to develop algorithms, tools and platform to solve problems in various projects in the domain of generating, managing and updating high quality 2D and 3D digital infrastructure. The foreseeable products of the joint lab are: LoD2 building models for the Trondheim municipality, LoD3 building models for the inner-city Trondheim, algorithms and database for 2D and 3D data management and updating, and an interactive 3D visualization platform.

The lab is working on AI-based algorithms and solutions to process Geodata both in images and 3D point clouds. This includes the topics of semantic segmentation, object detection, change detection and outline extraction in the modelling process. At the same time, the Nordig AI lab is also working with conventional methods to solve the above-mentioned problems and tasks, namely, to define features and rules based on human knowledge to overcome the problem of transparency and transformability in the domain of AI.

The joint AI lab serves also as a platform for resource sharing. NTNU and the Trondheim municipality share Geodata (raw data and productions) in different forms, algorithms, source codes, software and others in the framework of this collaboration.
