National Conference for Materials Technology 2026
News
The National Conference for Materials Technology was organized in Oslo 2-3. June 2026, co-organized by The Norwegian Metallographic Society and the Norwegian Corrosion Technology Association, and the Polytechnic Society.
This year's conference focused on research, innovation and industrial solutions that will shape the Norwegian materials industry in the years to come – with topics ranging from sustainability and circular economy to advanced materials technology and innovative production methods. The conference is an arena for the exchange of experience and networking and serves as a showcase for young researchers.
The conference had a varied program with presentations from high ranked politicians (Sigrun Aasland, Minister of Higher Education and Research), from Norwegian industry (including SFI PhysMet partners Hydro, Equinor and Elkem) as well as more scientific oriented presentations from NTNU and SINTEF researchers, including several presentations on SFI PhysMet activities.
During the conference, PhD candidate Armel Perrotin received the Dr. Haakon Styri’s scholarship. He also had an oral talk during the conference. The scholarship consists of 30000NOK that he plans to use for an exchange abroad.
Very good news indeed. CONGRATULATIONS!
This is a great achievement for Armel, who just started his PhD less than 10 months ago, but it is also a great opportunity for SFI PhysMet to show the quality of the work and people in the centre. This is also the result of our constructive collaboration with Elkem. We appreciate Elkem`s contribution in the centre, not only financially but also through competent and highly committed and engaged people, and in this context in particular the role of Jan Ove Odden and Alberto Olivo as Armel`s co-supervisors. Marisa Di Sabatino at NTNU is Armel`s main supervisor and his work is within RA3-Sustainable and high-performance material development.
