null The 46th Risø International Symposium, 2026

The 46th Risø International Symposium was organized 7-11. September at DTU Risø Campus (Roskilde) in Denmark, with Prof. Dorte Juul Jensen as the chair. The topic of this years’ Risø Symposium’ was characterization of evolving microstructures in metals.

The conference gathered experts from all around the world to present and discuss the recent advances related to the formation and characterization of evolving microstructures in metallic materials (incl. aluminum, steel, titanium, +++), including during Additive Manufacturing.

NTNU and SFI PhysMet were representative by Profs. Randi Holmestad and Knut Marthinsen. Randi gave a keynote presentation with the title “TEM studies of precipitates in age hardenable aluminium alloys – effects of composition and thermomechanical treatment”, while Knut gave a presentation with the title:  Printability, Microstructure, and Ageing Response of Ti-6Al-4V-Modified PBF-LB AA6061.

In addition to a hectic scientific program, the social program included a guided tour to   Roskilde Cathedral, a UNESCO World heritage site and the official royal burial church of the Danish monarchs, followed by a joint dinner, as well as a visit to the city of Copenhagen and guided tours focusing on the Denmark – Greenland relations, also followed by a joint dinner at the Royal Library in Copenhagen (The black diamond building).

Papers from the symposium are openly available in IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering.
