Prof. Mauri MäättänenProf. Mauri Määttänen obtained his MSc in Aeronautical Engineering from Helsinki University of Technology in 1968, and Dr. Techn. (PhD), (Ice induced structural vibrations) from Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) in 1978. He was a Teaching Assistant in Strength of Materials (Solid Mechanics) at HUT during 1965-68, and a Researcher 1968-70. He became an Associate Professor in Strength of Materials at the University of Oulu in 1970 and worked there at this position until 1977. From 1978 to 1987 he was Professor of Technical Mechanics at the University of Oulu. During 1978-1980 he was on sabbatical leave at the US Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory. Since 1988 he has been Professor of Strength of Materials at HUT. He is now Emeritus Professor at both NTNU in Norway and Aalto University in Finland. His main research interest is in ice mechanics, especially dynamic ice-structure interaction and ice forces.
