About the course
Course content
The course will address land use as a driving force and in the development of cities and regions. The impact of land use on travel behavior. The interaction between the various types of the transport as well as requirements for transport standards depending on various land use. Introduction to planning and impact assessment reports as management tools. Use of travel habit surveys, databases, GIS technology and impact analyses. Organization and carrying out interdisciplinary general planning. The course is taught in english the spring of 2013 if in need by the program Nordic Five Tech.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
The student shall know:
- the land-use transport connection (how much transport is generated by different functions)
- the presumtions for more environmental friendly travels (restrictions and incentives)
Skill:
The student shall learn to use two gravitation based models for transportation planning (land use and transporttation model; the retail model).
General competence:
The student knows:
- sustainable land use planning and transportation planning (what is part of this concept).
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, exercises, seminars. The exercise counts 50 % towards the final course grade. Both exercise and examen bust be passed to pass the course.

Recommended previous knowledge
The academic content of the course must be seen in connection with course AAR4220 Master Planning and courses in transport and road planning (such as TBA4216/TBA4215 Highway and Street Planning, TBA4291 Transport Analysis, TBA4300 Traffic Safety and Environmental Impacts and TBA4305 Freight Transport Systems).
