About the course

Course content

Central themes are wooden architecture, site analysis, form, space, the properties of wooden materials, chemical and mechanical protection of wooden materials, static priciples of timber structures and their influence on the architectural expression.

Learning outcome

The course gives the students knowledge in wood as a building material and the structural function of traditional and modern timber joints.Students develop skills in the use of this knowledge in architectural design.General knowledge is developed through the study of precedents.

Learning methods and activities

The course gives the student knowledge through seminars and workshops. An excursion is a part of the course. Evaluation is based on a essay.The course gives the students knowleledge in "integral approach" as a model for handeling complex matters. Excursions are voluntary.

Essay forms the basis for evaluation. It is not possible to file a complaint against the assesment of the compulsory activities as there is no letter grade for these assessments.You can register for a re-scheduled examination in the next exam period

Required previous knowledge

Completed three years basic courses in architecture, bachelor in architecture or equivalent. The course is connected with AAR4565 timber Structures A and will be taken in combination with this.
